. . . I'd venture to guess that Dick DeVos, through his work with Amway, Alticor, and whatever other businesses he's started, and his family - through their generous philanthropy - have done more for this state economically and culturally than you'll ever have a chance to do in your life. . .

To which I state the obvious:

If you call deporting Michigan jobs to China and then spending the money you made philanthropy, then, yes, I guess I won't have a chance in my lifetime, because I'd never deport jobs to China. And by the way, his family isn't running for govorner, he is, so whatever his rich daddy has done for his community isn't really relevant to the Dick's qualifications for Governor.

Thank you, kind yet annoyed commenter, for showing us yet again that the Dick would make a terrible governor.

The Dick's most recent ad (click on "Back to Work") begins with a shot of him driving his car. He's wearing a rust-colored sweater. At the end of the spot, he's wearing a different shirt, similar color, but he's driving the same car.

In the first shot at the beginning, you can clearly see the beige seatbelt across DeVos' chest. In the shot at the end, he's not wearing his seatbelt.

Maybe DeVos isn't into the habit of fastening his seatbelt because he's so rich, he doesn't actually drive himself around very much. But even if he would rather be careless and not wear his seatbelt, the very least he can do as a candidate for governor is to try and set an example for our youngsters who already have too high a rate of traffic fatalities. And I'm not convinced that we need a governor who, despite all his other shortcomings, can't even obey the simplest of state laws.

Or, maybe you only get a ticket for not clickin' it if you're a regular person instead of a rich, privileged jerk like the Dick.

Getting Michigan back to work? Huh? Is Dick living in the same Michigan as I am?

The Dick's new slogan on T.V. is that he will "Get Michigan back to work."

Question: is he talking about the relatively small number of people who are unemployed, or is he talking about the rest of us? I'm nowhere near as rich as DeVos, but I do know that I work pretty damn hard. I don't need to get "back to work." I need a Governor who is interested in solving Michigan's problems, not in choking the life out of our already struggling economy by giving more handouts and corporate welfare to big business. I spend the vast majority of my time working already, pretty much all the time that I'm not spending sleeping, caring for my children, maintaining my home, volunteering in my community.

I also know that 30 years ago, most families had a single breadwinner. Now, most families have dual breadwinners. That's twice as much work getting done now than was the case 30 years ago. Is the Dick telling us we're not working enough?

It sounds to me like the rich Dick thinks the rest of us aren't working hard enough. What Michigan nees is a solution to the economic crisis created by Republicans, not a rich guy saying we don't work enough. That's a bunch of crap.
